SportsEngine provides an extremely powerful platform for managing sports teams, and sports clubs, and sports leagues. Members are in charge of their accounts and through the settings can elect to receive (or cancel) communications, add additional communication channels to multiple emails / phones, and access team sites.
Before you begin creating your SportsEngine accounts, or even if you have an existing SportsEngine account, here are some important considerations:
- Your SportsEngine account is linked to the various teams and other activities that you interact with as a member of Foothills Lions RFC;
- It will maintain a history of all of your rugby seasons;
- Multiple accounts makes it difficult to find your historical data;
- Many players begin as juniors and then transition into adult rugby. This can pose an issue if their player profile is under their parent's account as a household account;
- Each SportsEngine primary account must have its own unique email address; and
- If you use a work email, then switch jobs, you can have issues accessing your account. FLRFC recommends always using a personal email as your primary email. A work email can be set up as a secondary email under your settings.
Overall organizational aspects of SportsEngine accounts:
- SportsEngine has two types of accounts: a primary account and a secondary "household" account, usually used for dependants / children;
- For household (child) accounts, multiple "Guardians" can be set, each Guardian is a primary account holder of a SportsEngine account; and
- Household accounts can be merged with other household accounts or with the primary account, all within a primary account. Household accounts can not be merged with a Guardian's account.
What does this mean? FLRFC suggests that the best way of setting up SportsEngine accounts for long term flexibility is as follows:
- For each parent, create your own primary SportsEngine account;
- Create a primary SportsEngine account for each child, this will allow them to eventually take over / manage their own sports activities while maintain the full history of their participation;
- Under each child's primary account, create a "household" account in the child's name;
- To each child's household account, add each parent's primary account as a "Guardian";
- Navigate to FLRFC's website, login with each child's primary account, then connect the child's household account to FLRFC's website;
- Navigate to FLRFC's website, login with each parent's account, and the connect each parent's account to FLRFC's website; and
- When a team invitation is sent to the email provided in your upcoming season's registration, accept the invitation using your child's household account.
Why would you do this?
- By setting up in this fashion, the child's household account is added to teams, which allows all Guardians the ability to access team information, schedules, etc.;
- As the child matures and starts to become accountable for his / her own activities, they can use their primary account to interact with team information / schedules / etc. while parents (Guardians) are still receiving communications and overseeing the child(ren); and
- As the child assumes complete control over his / her own activities, the parents can be removed as Guardians and the child can merge the household account with the main profile, simplifying the account while still maintain a complete account history.
